ashtrejinkins is a compton based producer and dj. known for his involvement with the low end theory community for years, he has now taken a new form into the world of uptempo electronic music. with his “ fruit in failure ep”, tre dives into the fruit of sound with vibrant synths and wholesome melodies. starting from the deep, into the soulful, and onto the future.

french artist marc nguyen tan released two renowned albums in the early 2003 and 2006 under the artist name colder on trevor jackson’s seminal label output recordings. in november 2015, colder returned after a decade in hiatus with his third, highly acclaimed album many colours followed by two other lps titled the rain and goodbye in 2016. kasper bjorke is one of the most acclaimed and versatile producers and djs hailing from denmark. kasper has released five renowned solo albums over the past decade and remixed a wide range of artists, from rebolledo to weval. the two artists first started working together when kasper remixed colders single ”your kind” - and colder in return remixed bjørke s track ”marbled blood”. the idea to take their collaboration even further was formed when the two of them met in person during sonar festival in barcelona in 2015. in 2016 they then teamed up in the redbull studio in paris for a three day improvised recording session. the result is the black magic ep in stores on september 8th via throne of blood. a collection of five raw, driving post punk / new wave and techno influenced compositions, recorded via the studio ssl desk in paris, using hardware synths and drum machines played through some exotic vintage effects. colder recorded his mesmerizing vocals on the spot along with french drummer julien sabourin and saxophone player thibaut javoy. the ep will be followed by a stellar remix package from the golden filter (optimo music), mutado pintado (paranoid london) and french producer and dj pilooski.

arriving as the third outing of len faki’s recently established non-profit platform lf rmx, these previously exclusive edits take on a raging classic by courtesy of frankie bones, godfather of the north-american rave scene. the new hardspace mix bolsters up the characteristic vocal and synths for even more frantic effect but trades in the percussion for faki’s signature assault of claps and hats. these also dominate the stripped-back hardspace tool, which carefully builds momentum only around the sirens and some seriously sizzling low-end rumble. both of faki’s personal mixes capture the original’s raw energy, yet manage to appear in both sleek but powerful presence. as with all releases of lf rmx, the proceeds of this record will be donated to the berlin charity project straßenkinder e.v. to be used in actions against child poverty.

doorly s reptile dysfunction continues to prove itself to be one of the most vibrant and singular labels around, this time tapping up legendary producer jaydee for its latest release. jaydee is a dance music pioneer. best know for the seminal plastic dreams - a track that, somewhat terrifyingly for those who remember it the first time around, will be celebrating its 25 th anniversary next year - he has continued to be a leading light in innovative house and techno productions, releasing on r&s and ellum audio in the last few years. here, he teams up with fellow dance music visionary doorly for a searingly brilliant release on the latter s reptile dysfunction imprint. acid pressure ep presents two original cuts from jaydee, with supporting remixed from doorly and trooko. kicking things off, back into acid opens with stunningly heartfelt pads before building to a killer acid line via shimmering percussion and erotically charged vocal snatches. bring the pressure is more direct: a house roller softened by basic channel-esque chords and with added rhythm courtesy of the accompanying ragga chants. on the remix front, doorly flips back into acid into something far more menacing, with fierce synths stabs and rolling drums creating a head down stomper, while trooko chops back into pressure into pieces, crafting a thumping main room house cut from the constituent parts, complete with an epic, piano-led breakdown.

as with his previous offerings - that have found a home on the likes of red rack’ems smugglers inn, horn wax, ruff draft, plus his co-owned end of label boss imprint – cyclonix continues to explore the deeper and more leftfield spectrum of underground dance music with a futuristic vision. made up of two original tracks, ‘alien drug store’ ep draws on a host of electronic influences ranging from deep house to detroit beatdown, alongside subtle hints of acid house and dub techno, whilst both retain the producers trademark sci-fi aesthetic. the release is completed with a sterling remix of ‘you’d better not’ from a pioneering legend of the uk underground - 4hero’s marc mac, under his nu era guise. heading up the a side is ‘you’d better not’, a slow-grooving techno cut bolstered by punchy kicks and a rubbery bassline, where foreboding sci-fi vox samples are interspersed with dubbed out chords and crunchy offbeat snares, as the arrangement shifts from one mood to another. the sub-aquatic vibes of ‘two face’ follows, which is set to a hypnotic two chord pattern, 4/4 kicks and a lashing of moody synths that gradually entices you into deeper realms through the aid of rippling hi-hats and rhythmic percussion with a submersed quality. on the flip is marc mac’s nu era take on the 12”s lead cut ‘you’d better not’, who transforms the menacing original into a blast of uplifting broken techno, where the soulful musicality of sustained strings and piano chords complement snippets of the original’s vocal sample that drifts atop adept drum programming, bouncy synth bass and a flurry of glistening synth melodies.

cult duo rework are next up on my favorite robot with a five track ep that shows off their brilliantly inventive house and tech style. the production outfit of daniel varga, michael kuebler deal in left of centre and freaky house with a mischievous afterparty slant. they have been active for more than a decade now and have credits on great labels like visionquest, items & things, meant and the institution that is playhouse. the brilliantly sleazy “talk it off” opens things up with popping drums, playful lyrics and a steely sound that is designed for wonky basement parties. “valencia” goes deeper with warm drums and synths surging along next to an elastic groove that is propped up by energetic and incendiary chord stabs. it’s a subtle but high impact track that will raise the energy levels on any floor. “think about you” has vocals coated in echo and delay and trippy synths that are lively and off kilter. it makes for a track that is brilliantly loose and undulating and cannot fail to get under your skin. final track “attractive” heads in a much more techno direction with surging drums and hypnotic slithering synths that burrow deep into your brain and seep into the night. it is trance inducing for sure, and shows another side to this accomplished outfit. this is a versatile ep stuffed with killer cuts for many different moments in the night, and each is as standout as the next.

drumcode continues its commitment to releasing the scene s most cutting-edge techno. with releases this year already from adam beyer, pig&dan, alan fitzpatrick, dense & pika and julian jeweil, this july sees the return of enrico sangiuliano with astral projection. after his remix of mobys of why does my heart feel so bad back in november last year, enrico sought creative inspiration from his travels, transcending that into his productions and long studio sessions during the winter months. the result brings a mind and body melting release from the italian producer. the title track astral projection is a captivating, big room techno masterpiece. deep reverberations punch alongside a sinisterly crisp percussive drive. launching into a groove laden synth modulation of low end textures, it breaks down into an ethereal amalgamation of pads and synths before the vocal launches, taking this track to another level. ‘blooming era has destructive dancefloor intent. there is no holding back with the low end synth modulation which enrico has mastered to perfection. a tightly woven percussive flare moulds flawlessly with the rolling oscillations of the beast of this track. if you have seen label head honcho adam beyer playing anywhere on the globe in the last 5 months, this has been a peak time favourite. road-tested to the max, and with much success.

fourth chapter of the italian label dancing like quagmire. dlq s ever growing family welcomes polish newcomer primo ultimo and italian duo calma (sorry for this records owners and harmonized residents) as remixers. fasten your seatbelts and you ll fly away into a cosmic journey through space and time riding primo ultimo s flight simulator. flight safety instructions: a1 is the title-track born to be an helpful party banger with its uzi-like snares and overwhelming synths. in a2 again the flight simulator but slow down time, thanks to calma s analog arsenal the sound gets deeper and warmer. on the flip side the b1 is azure vibes a clapping tropical house jam with breakbeat reminiscences. the final destination of this trip is the b2 bilbao where equilibrium and melody are king and queen remembering that joy is an electronic thing.

dutch maestro reimer eising returns with a new lesson in high class braindance electronica for analogical force. just one year on from the inspiring wingtip album on clone records and many (like us) have been looking forward to his new stuff, now the wait is over. alacasa , the result of months of work, sees reimer delving into his unique world of delicate drum patterns, kaleidoscopic synths, 4/4 beats and breaks, acid-tinged melodies, ghostly pads...blah blah blah... kettel has presented us with all of these things before but never with such immaculate care and attention to detail, production and pacing. he has never sounded better and fresher than this. the ep includes a dreamy and evocative remix from swedish hero rolando simmons, pure bliss to get lost in. no more words are needed, you know what to do.

hot on the heels of their role on correspondant compilation five, mexican maestros zombies in miami return to jennifer cardini’s label once again this summer with two supreme space-aged head jams. following recent disco excursions on hippie dance and bordello a parigi, the duo retreat to the shadier, heavyweight side of their signature with ‘take control’ and ‘last gun’. ‘take control’ is a glacial creeper laced with frosty electroid synths and a smouldering hypnotic beat while ‘last gun’ firms our focus on the looming lower tones, creating an ominous fog for the sunlight arpeggios to climb through evocatively. complete with on-point remixes from the lipsky brothers’ simple symmetry and benedikt frey & nadia d’alo’s init project, this will have you taking control for a long time to come.

ksmisk drop three atmospheric techno cuts for their second release on norwayís ploink. made up of truls kvam and robin crafoord, the scandinavian duo are well known under their trulz & robin moniker and have released on the likes of prins thomasí labels full pupp and rett i fletta, not to mention their own imprints cymasonic and cymawax. ëmagmaí is a deep and mesmerising production that continues to evolve as more elements are incorporated, blending crunchy kicks with serene pads and otherworldly effects. ëlavaí is a dark and suspenseful number in comparison, establishing a raw hook and ominous nuances at its base whilst sci-fi inspired synths cut in and out of the mix. finally, an ebbing beatless track titled ëtuyaí generates a melancholic aesthetic to conclude the release.

after a killer 12 inches from mori ra, jongno edits is back with two tunes, blurring the lines between editing and sampling. the a-side, 42 below, is an uplifting korean fusion boogie with slap bass, tropical synths, summery guitar and female vocals. given a serious dub work out by monsieur jongno. effortlessly working the bassline and guitar with added muscle, subtle dub fx s, drum fills, teasing the vocal and synths before unleashing the chorus and guitar solos. nice brazilian vibes on this one, like a lincoln olivetti production, seoul went rio. on the flip side, drums and a bass is an obscure lp cut from a korean percussion ensemble with traditional korean folk elements, tribal drums and chanting, spikey avant garde guitar plucks, rolling punk funk bassline that builds the energy levels with jazz style vocals and horns. sounding very liquid liquid, a bit can, a bit pig bag, with some korean craziness. expertly extended and re-arranged by the jongno edits main man to give it more of a dancefloor edge, and ramping up the psychedelics. powerful stuff.

over the clouds, over the palm trees, there’s club paradiso. club paradiso is a mission. this italo-duo comes from rimini, adriatic coast, and brings forth the golden age of the spanking riviera club culture. travelling through time and space with synths and drum machines, they mix the past(a) and the future. it’s not all about nostalgia, it’s the future they like. the new ep titled “panoramica” sexily rides the summer vibe with infectious body-moving rhythms. the ep is an hypnotic and groovy journey that starts off with “batongo”, a tribal and exotic dancefloor banger that will let the sweat out of the listener in zero time. “espresso notte” is filled with organic house grooves, dreamy pads and a synth that tells you a story that could go on and on and on. “gulliver” and “litoraneo” pick up from there and bring the sound scenario down heavy with 70s-80s disco sounds and boogie, transporting mind and body to a warm and mellow planet. “panoramica” reflects perfectly club pradiso’s goal of mixing past and future, an über-cool ep that is both club and disco friendly.

arrowhead fuses dubbed out elements with a running apache break and ominous synths. percussive vocal stabs propel the song forward, while a deep, driving bassline and amen cuts bring the pressure.
war diamond pays homage to dc’s indigenous sound, go-go. a hypnotic conga drum workout rinses oscillating bass with nature sounds, taking you above the canopy with a relentless swing. lightly toasted by born i music, this fresh take on jungle delivers a heavy, tribal perspective.

it goes without saying that space has always been central to techno – both in terms of its cosmic and futuristic trajectory, as well as in the spatial dimensions of sonic elements. etapp kyle’s first full ostgut ton ep release sees the ukrainian-born, berlin- based berghain resident emphasizing the connection between the two, while avoiding techno’s overt intergalactic clichés. by partially linking to his continuum ep (unterton, 2016), the results are four tracks of pristine, sci-fi minimalism, propelled by ambient synths and percussive explosions in distant skies – more utopian than dystopian. opener “alpha” establishes the cosmic theme from the get go, with chord swells and a whirring, phasing spacewind panning across the stereo image. while a subdued kickdrum gets things started, it’s the rhythmic interplay between dynamic high-hats and halled-out rimshots that guide the track through space. from there, “quantum” on a2 strips the voyage down to a glowing, unwavering arpeggiated synth line, interspersed with twisted, high-pitched bells and updated 909- esque snare patters.

flesh world is a dream punk group formed in the summer of 2012 in san francisco. the quartet includes scott moore (guitar, synths) jess scott (vocals, guitar) andrew luttrell (bass, backing vocals) sam lefebvre (drums). jess and scott met while loitering around the panhandle district, listening to records, gossiping, and playing live shows around town with their bands (scott plays in hardcore group limp wrist and jess played in the indie pop band brilliant colors).

soma welcome back long time collaborator tony scott under his edit select alias with the bridge. having recorded such classics as x-track under percy x, tony has since found new depths with his edit select moniker which has seen countless releases on his own self titled label and more. with an album currently planned for release on soma in early 2018, edit select takes his first steps onto his hometown label with this new single.
suitably deep production is always the order of the day with any edit select release and this one is no different. title track, the bridge, begins with a chugging beat before gradually undulating into epic soundscapes. flux takes a darker turn as twisted synths resonate throughout the typical atmospheric backdrop. tonalist creates more rhythmic scenes with intense percussive elements keeping the track moving.

ltd repress --- after his comeback album on morphine in 2014, sote marks his return to rhythm by taking part in repitchÆs 10inch series with a banging twotracker extracted from his more than 20 years old unreleased archive. ôneuroenhancerö produced in 1995 is a heavyduty techno drilling machine, pairing an oldschoolmillslike groove with a throbbing mass of modular synths. on the other side ôin music i trustöÆs main engine is an incandescent hardcore/jungle beat, haunted by spacedout vocals in the darkness. the track was produced in 1997 with friend æsafarÆ a san francisco based dj/producer, shortly after sote&#835,,,,s initial experiments with jungle and drum n bass pre his warp ep in 2002.

see double, the london based imprint headed by luca cazal and brigante, returns for its fifth outing, a three track ep from boris werner titled badabing badaboum. a club-ready package and staple of werner s recent sets, sd005 once again proves this amsterdam locals deep knowledge and understanding of how to move a dance floor. played by seth troxler and richy ahmed amongst others and tried and tested by both label boss cazal and werner on dc10s terrace throughout this summer, title track badabing badaboum is a bonafide club smasher. leading the charge with a hypnotic bell riff alongside a chugging 4/4 pulse, werner keeps a driving pace as sluggish and evolving low end theory enters the fray. a deftly constructed, energy filled arrangement progresses before indiscernible, tribal vocal chants take the fore, trading blows with a modulating acid bassline. on the flip werner delivers you snooze you looze, a tech-infused cut adorned with rolling subs, clinical percussion and a head-snapping rhythm. phased synthesis and dissonant sample work pushes the track into uncharted trippy territory, as processed vox stabs and crisp hi-hat patterns maintain momentum, leading to a deeply musical breakdown that offers a truly dynamic shift in mood. closing the ep is whooos in control, a lesson in atmosphere and groove, which sees spaced-out synths interplay with automated stabs. ethereal pads and warped fx float atop werners swung drum programming creating that perfect roller for those early morning moments. sd005 will be available soon in both digital and physical formats.

keope is the musical brainchild of toni bruna and marcus rossknecht. with the aim to record an album they ve met in an abandoned quarry on the slovenian border. the outcome tropicalni seems to exist in a vacuum. stylistically, all tracks here owe something to multiple genres and reference points - from folk, balearic, psychedelic and electronica, but none really fit well. synths drift in breezily, floating around the wistful melodies, acoustic guitars sparkle, while flutes & the beats hint at a deeper connection to dance rituals.
